Telugu film Laila premiered in theatres on Valentine's Day 2025, coinciding with the releases of the Hindi film Chhaava and Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World. While the latter two films received a mix of positive and negative feedback from audiences, Laila did not fare well. The film, featuring Vishwak Sen, has been met with widespread criticism, particularly on social media platforms like Twitter (now X), where viewers expressed their discontent throughout Friday morning.

About Laila

Laila is an action comedy directed by Ram Narayan, showcasing Vishwak Sen in a dual role as Sonu, an aspiring model, and the titular character, Laila, who embodies a femme fatale. The cast also includes Akanksha Sharma, Vennela Kishore, Babloo Prithiveeraj, and Abhimanyu Singh. Prior to its release, Laila encountered controversy and calls for a boycott. However, many users on Twitter noted that the protests were ultimately unnecessary.

Laila Twitter reviews

The reception of Laila on the internet has been overwhelmingly negative, with many labelling the film as a complete failure. In response to the boycott controversy, one Twitter user humorously remarked, "Don't believe any hateful reviews targeting #Laila movie. #LailaMovie is a disaster in terms of script from beginning to end; it is unbearable torture." Another user expressed their disdain with a thumbs down and vomit emoji alongside an image of the film's title card, stating, “The Worst... Seriously, what a scrap.”

A review highlighted the film's two segments as 'trashy and concerning.' In response, a Twitter user remarked, "#Laila - A Subpar and Distressing Film. The creators seem to rely solely on body shaming and double entendre humour." Another viewer humorously criticized Laila, stating, “Bhojpuri films convey a better message than this.”

The Boycott Laila controversy

On February 9, at the pre-release event for Laila, cast member Prudhvi Raj made provocative remarks regarding political figures, which sparked a trending 'Boycott Laila' movement on Twitter. His comments, laden with political implications, included mockery of certain politicians in light of the recent Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. Despite Prudhvi's subsequent apology, numerous individuals online, especially those affiliated with the YSR Congress Party, advocated for a boycott of the film.
