Empuraan X Reviews: Fans Split—Is Lucifer the Superior Film?

3 days ago | 5 Views

The highly anticipated sequel to Prithviraj Sukumaran's film Lucifer, featuring Mohanlal, has finally premiered in theaters. In light of the original's success, the producers have significantly increased both the budget and the scale of the sequel, leading to claims—though unverified—that it is the most costly Malayalam film to date. However, a lingering question persists: will the enhancements in visual splendor be the sole improvement, or will the narrative also receive a much-needed enhancement?

The decision is clear, and based on social media reactions, it appears that both fans and impartial viewers feel somewhat disappointed by the narrative. In contrast, the visual presentation has been praised as outstanding. Many believe that Empuraan has several strengths; however, the drawbacks seem to surpass these advantages, with numerous individuals suggesting that Lucifer is the superior film of the two.

The initial segment of the 3-hour film Empuraan showcased more impactful moments, while the latter half was perceived as somewhat lackluster. Critics noted that despite the filmmakers' dedication to delivering impressive visuals, the narrative coherence was notably neglected. The background score, cinematography, and performances received significant acclaim, particularly highlighting Mohanlal's consistent excellence. Overall, the prevailing sentiment is that the film represents a mediocre endeavor from the production team, with some viewers even expressing doubts about the necessity of a third installment.

Despite the less than favorable word-of-mouth surrounding Empuraan, the film's team is enjoying significant financial success, as evidenced by its remarkable pre-release ticket sales globally. The film is expected to perform well at the box office over the next three days, further aided by the absence of Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran, which did not release today, and the fact that Salman Khan’s Sikandar will only premiere on Sunday, coinciding with Eid.
