The much-anticipated original series Call Me Bae has a trailer that is both hilarious and a little emotional. Light-hearted and artistically stunning, the eight-part series follows heiress Bella Chowdhary (aka Bae) as she transitions from a life of luxury to that of a hustler. Ananya Panday makes her streaming debut as Bae in the series, and some of the other important actors are Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Lisa Mishra, Mini Mathur, and Niharika Lyra Dutt. Ishita Moitra developed the series, co-writing it with Samina Motlekar and Rohit Nair, and Collin D'Cunha directed it. Executive producers include Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. The production is handled by Dharmatic Entertainment. Premiering on Prime Video on September 6, Call Me Bae will have dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada in addition to its original Hindi version.

Call Me Bae plot and setting

The opening scene of the Call Me Bae trailer provides a glimpse into Bae's opulent, privileged existence in New Delhi. But when her family disowns her, her beautiful life crumbles, and the action shifts to the bustling streets of Mumbai, leaving Bae to fend for herself. As she struggles to adjust to her new life in Mumbai, from figuring out how to get across town on public transport to juggling the responsibilities of a journalist, the upbeat music sets the mood. As she overcomes the numerous obstacles she encounters, her distinctive combination of humour and wit helps her forge unexpected friendships and alliances. With its mix of comedic and endearing moments, the trailer makes viewers want to see Bae's incredible metamorphosis.

Ananya Panday on playing Bae

Talking about the series, Ananya Panday said in a statement that she always knew that she wanted to be a part of Call Me Bae. The actor knew this was going to be something special even without hearing the script. Playing a complex character with so many facets, like Bae, is a thrill and an honour for any actor. Bae's transformation from heiress to hustler is so interesting and captivating because she's more complex than she seems. Her purity of heart and enthusiasm for life are untarnished by the trials she endures. The part's sincerity drew Ananya to it. Collin is a great director, and the cast couldn't be more accommodating for her first foray into a long-form original series. She is thrilled to be working on the series with Dharmatic Entertainment and Prime Video, and she can't wait to introduce Bae to viewers all over the globe.

The process of directing Call Me Bae was quite fulfilling for D'Cunha. An exceptional coming-of-age story, the concept of removing a fish from its natural habitat and observing its development is novel and captivating. The protagonist's singularity of thought and dogged persistence were the things that hooked him and, in his opinion, will make her an iconic figure. The writing was full of humor, but it was the profound message that truly resonated with him, drawing him into Bae's vibrant and vibrant world. Dharmatic Entertainment and Prime Video were incredible to work with; they were completely on board with his series vision. Under Ananya's leading role, the cast was exceptional and played a crucial role in bringing this production to life. When the series debuts, D'Cunha can't wait to see how viewers relate to it.

Karan Johar on the unique perspective of the series

According to Karan Johar, although there are numerous stories that adhere to the rags-to-riches cliché, Call Me Bae presents a novel perspective by inverting the genre. The story is about a young woman who comes from an affluent family and is handed the luxury of life. However, the fast-paced metropolis of Mumbai thrusts her into the unknown, requiring her to learn self-reliance. She learns to rely on herself and finds her own calling on her life-altering adventure. Johar is confident that this series' fresh take on the coming-of-age story will appeal to individuals of all ages and backgrounds in India and abroad. Call Me Bae is their third original production, a fruitful partnership with Prime Video. They are aiming to introduce viewers to a character who is both iconic and relatable—Ananya, who fully embraces Bae's values—in this effort.
