Avatara Purusha 2 movie story: Kumara (Srinagara Kitty), the long-lost son of Rama Jois (Saikumar) has returned, but far from bonding with his parents, his only intention is to get hold of the Trishanku Mani that is housed within the premises of their abode. But then Anila (Sharan) returns to thwart it.

Avatara Purusha 2 movie review: It took the team of director Suni’s Avatara Purusha nearly 2 years to bring the second instalment of the tale to theatres. Delays in VFX were one of the most quoted reasons. Having seen the film, now that it is available to stream on OTT (I’d missed the theatrical release), the lingering thought is if the graphics work was contracted to beginner-level students of a design school. For the amount of time this work took, the output is quite shoddy. But that is not the most disappointing aspect of Avatara. 

This is a film that does not have a ‘Suni touch’ to it, it just does not have that feel-good factor one gets from the filmmaker’s offerings. Audiences may be divided about the quality and entertainment quotient of Avatara Purusha 1, but amid a steady stream of below-average content from Kannada filmmakers, at the time, it came as a welcome breeze. There were good songs, decent comedy and a plot that seemed promising. Srinagara Kitty’s Kumara would be at the centre of part 2, one thought. How wrong that thought would turn out to be.

All that Kitty gets to do in his minimal screen time is glare. Hell, the makers did not even make the most of the actor’s baritone and give him enough lines in the film. In all honestly, I was expecting a big black magic showdown between Kumara and Sharan’s Anila, but that was not to be. Instead, it is Saikumar’s Rama Jois and Anila that the narrative centres on, and they are fighting for a common cause, so there are no fireworks there either.

Ashika Ranganath, Sudharani, Sadhu Kokila and Vijay Chendoor get less than a minute each of screen time and if one were to cut their portions out, it would not have any bearing on the ‘plot’. What a waste of time and effort.

In the time since Avatara Purusha 1 came out, Suni has made 2 films one of which released this year. The feeling one gets after watching Avatara Purusha 2 is that he either did not have much to do with the post-production or was limited in terms of resources. Either which way, we are left with a film that has no soul. Perhaps it is stuck in Trishanku Loka with no means of return. At this point, that may just be what’s best - stay there and don’t come back.

Avatara Purusha 2 movie verdict: Avatara Purusha 2 has literally no redeeming elements. For a sequel to a film that seemed so promising, it is a complete let down.
