Aay Story

Karthik(Narne Nithin) is a software engineer who returns to his hometown during the second lockdown. He spends quality time with his friend and falls in love with Pallavi(Nayan Sarika). Even Pallavi starts showing interest in Karthik, but the twist in the tale arises when Pallavi agrees to marry someone else, stating that Karthik is from another cast. This breaks Karthik's heart, and he, along with his two friends, goes on a mission to convince Pallavi to get back in her life. Whether he succeeded or not is the essential crux of the film.

Aay Review

Aay features Nanrne Nithin, Jr. NTR's brother-in-law, in the lead role. The film is directed by Anji K Maniputhra. It is set in a small villa ge and revolves around a couple and two friends. It is a simple story, but the narration is quite good. Aay has beautiful locations and hilarious scenes that complement the storyline.

The basic concept of a girl having strong feelings about marrying a boy in her cast only has not been tried before, giving the film a new freshness. Also, the manner in which director Anji adds so many fun elements to the narrative is so good to see in the movie. 

One of the biggest assets of the film is the chemistry between the three friends. Rajkumar Kasireddy and Ankit Koyya play the other two friends, and they bring a lot to the plate and entertain the audience in a big way. The entire first half has so many cool moments that depict friendship in a hilarious manner. The way the hero falls in love is showcased in a very organic manner.

Though the film's storyline is straightforward, the way director Anji has designed the screenplay keeps the audience engaged till the end. But the graph in the second half dips a bit. The director does not have much story to showcase, and due to this, he adds so many filler scenes that sidetrack the film for no reason.

But the director makes things work as he pens a solid screenplay and executes a solid pre-climax. The climax of the film is also handled on an impressive note by the director. The manner in which the love story is given an impressive closure makes things work in favor of the film big time. But still, there are a few scenes that bore the audience.

A few comedy scenes in tense situations in the second half should have been avoided. Coming to the performances, Nanrne Nithin has improved a lot with his performance. When compared to his first film, he has done a very good job. He is exceptional in all the comedy scenes with his friends. But the actual star of the film is Rajkumar Kasireddy, who steals the show with his hilarious performance. It is his act that holds the attention till the end.

Ankit Koyya is another asset to the film and does his part well. The female lead, Nayan Sarika, is also a solid find and gives a memorable performance. She looked cute and was amazing in all the emotional scenes. Sameer Kalyani's camerawork is amazing and showcases the small town set in a beautiful manner.

The editing should have been crisper in the second half. But credit should go to the director, Anji, for showcasing a simple subject in an impressive manner. Though the film dips in the second half, the last half-hour is showcased superbly and ends the movie on a good note.

Anji Verdict

Aay is an endearing village drama with a familiar premise. However, the film's humorous narration makes it work big time. The youthful comedy has multiple moments that deserve a watch on the big screen.
