Woman's Jawline Transformation Post-Wisdom Teeth Extraction Sparks Discussion
1 month ago | 5 Views
Wisdom teeth can really be a hassle, right? But have you ever considered that they could actually change the shape of your face or jawline? A woman named Peach recently posted on Instagram about how getting her wisdom teeth removed transformed her jawline.
"Why didn't anyone warn me that getting my wisdom teeth out would also mean saying goodbye to my jawline?" she shared. Peach went on to say, "It's been a while, and my face isn't swollen anymore—this is just how I look now. I might have just kept them in and dealt with the pain."
Can your wisdom teeth impact your jawline?
To get the lowdown on how wisdom teeth can impact your jawline, Lifestyle magazine chatted with an expert. Dr. Anmol Agarwal, Principal Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital, shared, "Wisdom teeth, which are the third molars at the back of your mouth, are the last ones to come in. If they get impacted or come in crooked, they might not have enough room to grow properly, which can indirectly influence your jawline."
He added, "When they come in at weird angles or get stuck under the gums, they can push against nearby teeth, leading to crowding and shifting in your dental arch. Sometimes they don’t cause any problems, but since they’re trickier to clean, they’re more likely to get cavities and gum issues compared to other teeth."

He mentioned that impacted wisdom teeth can lead to jaw pain and pericoronitis, and they might even cause you to bite your cheeks. This can result in discomfort and affect how your jaw is structured, especially if you're chewing more on one side. The pressure from these teeth can change your bite, which might alter your facial symmetry over time. Sometimes, a chronic infection around partially erupted wisdom teeth can weaken the jawbone and nearby tissues, affecting alignment even more. If these problems aren't taken care of, they can have lasting impacts on your oral health and how your face looks.
When should you think about getting your wisdom teeth removed?
If you're feeling any pain around your wisdom teeth, it's a good idea to get a dental check-up. Your dentist can look for any signs of infection or swelling that might mean you need to have a wisdom tooth removed. While you wait for your appointment, you can try some home remedies like massaging your gums, rinsing with warm salt water, taking pain relievers, and keeping up with your oral hygiene to help ease the discomfort, says Dr. Anmol.
