Want to lose 10 kg quickly and manage diabetes? A nutritionist suggests one simple action before and after each meal
1 month ago | 5 Views
Eating a salad before your meal and going for a walk afterward can really help, especially when it comes to keeping blood sugar levels in check, says nutritionist Shikha Singh. In a recent post, she shared how munching on those leafy greens and veggies can speed up weight loss because they’re packed with fiber.
She pointed out that a salad can slow down how quickly your body digests and absorbs carbs, which helps keep blood sugar spikes lower. Plus, taking a stroll after eating can further lower blood sugar by boosting how much glucose your muscles take in and enhancing insulin effectiveness.
Eating a salad before your meal can help you shed some pounds
In her post called '1 thing before and after every meal to lose 10 kg and reverse diabetes', Shikha Singh shared in Hindi, “If you do this before and after each meal, you'll shed pounds quickly and avoid diabetes. Here’s the simple idea: when we eat carbs, they break down into sugar that enters our bloodstream. Our pancreas releases insulin, a hormone that helps move that sugar into our cells, turning it into energy as ATP. However, if you take in too much sugar, it gets stored in your liver and muscles. And if you keep overdoing it, that excess sugar turns into fat, which can lead to weight gain.”
Going for a stroll after eating
She mentioned that eating more carbs can cause sugar spikes in the body, which leads to increased insulin production. However, our cells don’t really need that much sugar, which can result in insulin resistance and eventually diabetes. So, how do you avoid this? Just start your meal with a big salad and include a protein source. The fiber and protein take longer to digest, which helps slow down the digestion of the carbs, making them convert to sugar at a slower rate. This means fewer sugar spikes. Plus, taking a 10-minute walk after each meal can help contract your muscles, boost blood flow, and further reduce those sugar spikes.
By mixing these two habits, you could really help keep blood sugar spikes in check and enhance your overall glucose metabolism. Just keep in mind that everyone’s body reacts differently, so these habits should be part of a broader strategy for managing blood sugar, which includes a balanced diet and regular exercise.
