Varun Dhawan Responds to Nutritionist's Critique on Black Coffee and Gut Health

Actor Varun Dhawan, recognized for his dedication to fitness and well-being, recently revealed that he has stopped consuming black coffee in the morning due to gastrointestinal issues and acidity. His comments, however, elicited a rebuttal from nutritionist Prashant Desai, who deemed the statement inaccurate. In light of this criticism, the actor has also shared his thoughts.
What did Varun Dhawan say about black coffee?
In a discussion on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Varun addressed health concerns associated with drinking black coffee on an empty stomach. He mentioned that starting his day with black coffee adversely affected his gut health and noted that switching to blonde roast coffee has been beneficial for him, as it is gentler on the stomach. When the host mentioned his own habit of consuming black coffee first thing in the morning, Varun advised against it.
“If you wake up and begin your day with only black coffee, even if you do not currently have gut issues, you will likely develop them,” Varun Dhawan stated.
Varun gets slammed
Varun's remarks were met with criticism, particularly from health expert Prashant Desai, who sought to correct him.
On Instagram, Desai commented, “Come on Varun, really? This is simply not accurate. I have been drinking black coffee for 15 years upon waking, on an empty stomach, without any problems. It is true that each person's gut is unique, much like a fingerprint. However, to claim that everyone will experience gut issues and acidity is incorrect. Varun Dhawan may have experienced acidity, but that does not make it a universal truth. Dietary needs are personal; what may not work for one individual does not apply to all.”
In response to the criticism, Varun acknowledged Desai's comments and sought his advice.
Varun shared on his Instagram Stories while reposting Desai's message, “That’s absolutely true; it didn’t work for me, and I’m pleased it hasn’t affected you, as you are healthy and fit. I did mention that it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation, and I appreciate you using my experience to educate others, sir. However, I would also love to receive some tips from you, as I am always eager to learn.”
On the work front
Varun Dhawan's upcoming film, Baby John, is generating significant excitement, and audiences will not have to wait much longer for its release. This action-driven drama, helmed by director Kalees and produced by Atlee—who made his Hindi production debut with Jawan—promises an exhilarating blend of action and emotional depth. In this film, Varun portrays a police officer and devoted single father, unafraid to confront any obstacles. The cast also includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff, with a special appearance by Salman Khan. Baby John is set to premiere on Christmas Day.
