Upasana Konidela, married to actor Ram Charan, recently participated in an interview with social media influencer Masoom Minawala. During their discussion, Upasana shared insights on a range of subjects, including her experiences with motherhood, the success of her marriage, and navigating public scrutiny.

In a video uploaded to YouTube on April 7, Upasana also discussed her journey of egg freezing, detailing her decision-making process and whether her career influenced this choice.

Why should women freeze their eggs?

Upasana Konidela believes that freezing eggs serves as one of the most effective forms of insurance for women, granting them control over their reproductive choices. When asked about her decision to freeze her eggs, she explained to Masoom, “It wasn't a difficult choice. The egg-freezing process is straightforward. Many assume it’s solely for fertility reasons, but I view it as a means of ensuring security. It acts as an insurance policy, allowing a woman to determine when she wants to have children on her own terms.”

She further emphasized, “Since she will be the one carrying the child and primarily responsible for its care, it is essential that she has the authority to decide when to start a family,” said the mother of one.

'My family told me to freeze my eggs…'

Upasana disclosed that she did not encounter any reservations from her family regarding her decision. “Regarding the egg-freezing procedure, my family encouraged me to proceed, and I was grateful for their support. However, I did have Kaara naturally, so that was a different experience. I am content with my choices,” she shared.

Upasana expressed her belief that egg freezing for women is akin to strategizing for their future and financial stability. "I believe that science has the potential to achieve remarkable things with embryos in the future. Therefore, when one is in good health, it is wise to preserve them as much as possible. I have a strong faith in science, and I questioned what was preventing me from freezing my eggs. The answer was nothing. I refuse to be influenced by societal pressures; I have developed a resilient attitude," she concluded.
