Therapist Reveals 5 Hidden Behaviors That Could Be Sabotaging Your Relationship
4 days ago | 5 Views
A strong relationship relies on important elements such as communication, honesty, trust, and mutual respect. Yet, there are some unintentional actions we might take that could undermine our partnership.
5 stealthy relationship wreckers
Relationship therapist Kasturi M refers to these as "sneaky relationship saboteurs." In a recent Instagram post, she highlighted five of these saboteurs and posed the question, "A strong connection is intentional. Do you recognize how you contribute to your relationship?"
Discover the 5 sneaky relationship destroyers that the therapist revealed:
1. Overlooking little acts of gratitude
At times, expressing gratitude, offering compliments, or showing love might feel trivial, especially in long-term relationships. But according to Kasturi, these small acts are vital for keeping the connection strong. She noted that when these gestures are overlooked or happen less often, it can lead one or both partners to feel unappreciated or overlooked, gradually weakening the emotional ties in the relationship.
2. Letting unresolved conflicts stick around
Conflict is a normal aspect of any relationship, but if left unaddressed or ignored, it can escalate into bigger problems down the line. Dodging tough discussions or neglecting to tackle core issues can lead to feelings of resentment and strain, ultimately undermining the relationship's stability and making it more prone to instability.
3. Covertly hostile actions
Good communication is essential for a lasting relationship. But when you hint at negative emotions or resentment instead of confronting them head-on, it can show up in different forms like sarcasm, veiled insults, or backhanded compliments.
Kasturi pointed out that even though these behaviors might appear innocent or accidental, they can be confusing or painful for the partner on the other side, ultimately damaging communication and trust.
4. Insufficient backing
According to a relationship expert, not having support is a major relationship killer, and it's not something that gets talked about much. She pointed out that when partners don’t actively back each other’s goals and dreams, it can lead to feelings of loneliness, insecurity, and even resentment.
Support can be lacking in various ways, like brushing off each other’s ambitions, not providing encouragement, or being absent during tough times. This can make partners feel unappreciated and insignificant, which creates a disconnect and dissatisfaction in the relationship. She emphasized that without mutual support, relationships can struggle to flourish, causing partners to drift apart emotionally.
5. Putting personal needs ahead of the relationship all the time
According to the expert, a strong relationship involves both partners understanding the need to balance their personal needs with those of the relationship. This often requires making compromises, sacrifices, and choices that focus on the overall health of the partnership. On the flip side, if one or both partners continually put their own wants and goals first without thinking about how it affects the relationship, it can lead to feelings of imbalance and resentment.
