A growing trend in sun protection is the use of oral sunscreen supplements, which complement regular topical sunscreens. These supplements are packed with antioxidants and plant extracts that work to counteract the free radical damage from UV rays.

In a chat with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Mikki, the Founder and Medical Director at Bodycraft Clinics, mentioned, “Some popular ingredients are Polypodium leucotomos extract (PLE), astaxanthin, niacinamide, vitamins C and E, and carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin. These elements help lower oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage in skin cells.”

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): People who have a lot of acne issues should use products that have this ingredient. It helps control oil and at the same time hydrates the skin and evens the skin tone.

Still, Dr. Mikki warns that they shouldn't be relied on alone—using broad-spectrum SPF, wearing protective clothing, and practicing sun-smart habits are still the best ways to stay safe. In the future, we might see even stronger formulas that boost our natural defenses against the sun, which could help lower the chances of long-term skin damage and skin cancer.
