In a podcast episode of Journey Unscripted with Chanda Kochhar aired on February 24, 2025, the actor, who welcomed his first grandchild on March 24, 2025, shared that the secret to his remarkable physique at the age of 63 lies in a blend of consistency, discipline, and a well-rounded lifestyle.

'Today when I train it's more about my diet'

When asked about his fitness philosophy and the habits he adheres to in order to sustain his impressive condition, Suniel Shetty remarked, “It’s essential to understand your age and your environment and to work accordingly. In my thirties, I aspired to have a physique like Arnold Schwarzenegger, so I focused on proper nutrition and intense training. I aimed for significant muscle mass to create the impression that I could take on multiple opponents. Now, my training emphasizes my diet and my mental well-being. At over 60, it’s crucial to maintain independence, to rise quickly, and to avoid slouching or dragging my feet. My training regimen has evolved; I observe, listen, learn, ask questions, and adapt.”

‘I quantify my food’

He underscored the significance of adhering to a consistent diet and exercise routine, stating, “Fitness involves adaptation; it’s not necessary to go to the gym to develop your physique; being active is essential for enhancing both mental and physical strength. Therefore, I monitor my food intake. I ensure that I avoid certain items. For me, anything white is off-limits, whether it’s milk due to my lactose intolerance or white rice and ice cream. I maintain a level of consistency and discipline that few can match. I am very particular about finishing my dinner by 7 PM. I rise early to witness the sunrise; if I miss it, my day doesn’t function as well. My energy peaks at that time, allowing me to train for 45 minutes. While my training sessions are not lengthy, I commit to exercising six days a week. I am consistently diligent... I monitor my food intake—if my caloric requirement is between 1400 and 1900, I calculate what I eat, the quantities, and my sugar intake. I aim for 15 to 16 grams of oil and 7 to 8 grams of sugar, and I adhere to these guidelines. There is no need for excess because true wellness is significantly more affordable than illness, so I prefer to prioritize my health.”
