Most women experience menstrual periods lasting between four to seven days. Although the typical cycle occurs every 28 days, normal menstrual cycles can vary from 21 to 35 days. Nonetheless, factors such as lifestyle changes, stress, health concerns, or hormonal imbalances may lead to irregular or delayed periods.

Menstrual irregularities are quite prevalent, with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) being a common cause. Nutritionist Sarah Hart has indicated that certain foods can help induce irregular or delayed periods. In a video titled "5 Foods to Induce a Missing/Delayed Period," she shared her personal experience of having irregular periods for 11 years and the dietary changes that assisted her.

5 foods you should eat to induce delayed periods

Here are five foods recommended to help induce delayed periods. The advantage is that they are readily available in most kitchens. Sarah, who frequently shares dietary advice for managing PCOS, captioned her video, "5 foods that helped me get my period back #pcos #pcosawareness #pcosdiet." The video opens with her addressing women with PCOS who may be experiencing missed periods, stating, "As a nutritionist who has dealt with irregular periods for 11 years, I will share five foods that can help regulate your cycle."

1. Dates

According to the nutritionist, dates are beneficial in raising body temperature, which promotes uterine contractions and consequently accelerates the onset of menstruation.

2. Papaya

Papaya contains carotene and the enzyme papain, both of which contribute to enhancing menstrual flow.

3. Ginger root

Furthermore, Sarah recommended the intake of ginger root. The nutritionist indicated that ginger stimulates uterine contractions, resulting in shorter menstrual periods. Additionally, it alleviates inflammation, leading to reduced discomfort.

4. Pineapple

Pineapple is also rich in an enzyme that aids in the development of the uterine lining and enhances blood circulation during menstruation.

5. Fenugreek

Finally, Sarah encouraged individuals experiencing delayed periods to incorporate fenugreek into their diet, referring to it as her ‘holy grail.’ She stated, “Fenugreek will effectively help regulate the duration of your period and alleviate menstrual pain.”
