Losing weight after having a baby can be tough. Fitting in workouts or sticking to a diet while caring for your little one can feel like a lot to handle. Between soothing a crying baby at night and keeping up with feeding times, focusing on weight loss might end up on the back burner. Plus, even when you try hard, shedding those pounds can feel physically challenging.

However, just like your baby, you can take small steps toward weight loss by adopting a few easy habits that can help you gradually.

Nutritionist Shalini Sudhakar shared some helpful tips on Instagram on April 19 to support your weight loss journey.

She discussed the reasons behind post-pregnancy weight struggles, noting, “Your metabolism has slowed down due to the hormonal changes your body has experienced.”

To boost metabolism and increase calorie burn, she recommended these three easy tips:

Include a bowl of veggies with every meal

Veggies have robust health benefits.

It might seem like a no-brainer to pile on the veggies since they’re so good for you. Besides the usual health perks, they also play a sneaky role in helping your body shed fat.

Shalini pointed out, “Did you know your gut uses three times more energy to break down fiber? So, if it takes 50 calories to digest a bowl of rice, it’ll take 150 calories to digest veggies. By simply adding more vegetables to each meal, you’re actually burning more calories.”

This means that every meal not only adds calories but also helps you burn some off, making each plate work for you and supporting your fitness journey.

Ragi oatmeal

Ragi porridge can be a light snack.

Ditch those junk food or sugary cravings when evening snack time rolls around. Instead, choose a healthier option that fulfills your nutritional needs, adds value, and tackles common deficiencies.

She explained, “This will help reduce your sugar cravings and any binge eating during snack time, plus those essential micronutrients like calcium and iron are crucial for every woman.”

Make it a habit to do Suryanamaskara every day

Suryanamskaram utilises your body's flexibility.

Suryanamaskar is a workout that the nutritionist suggested you add to your daily routine.

Shalini mentioned, “It’s a fantastic mix of strength training and cardio that can help you burn calories while toning your whole body. Aim for at least eleven rounds, and then gradually increase the number as you get more comfortable.”
