Shweta Bachchan’s Vegetarian Streak: Jaya Bachchan’s Mission Unaccomplished
13 days ago | 5 Views
Numerous celebrities adopt a plant-based diet for a variety of reasons, including animal welfare and improved health. Shweta Bachchan, who celebrated her 51st birthday on March 17, is among them. Before delving into the numerous health advantages she gains from incorporating whole, nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds into her daily meals, it is pertinent to reference her insights shared in an article for NDTV Food dated July 13, 2017, titled 'Of Being Vegetarian and Still Loving Caviar.'
Shweta Bachchan says she 'was born vegetarian’
Shweta Bachchan asserts that she "was born vegetarian." She reminisced about her steadfast commitment to vegetarianism, despite the attempts of her mother, the renowned actress and politician Jaya Bachchan, to influence her dietary choices. Shweta is the daughter of Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan and the sister of Abhishek Bachchan.
In her writing, she stated, “I am vegetarian, and no one who enjoys food, like a vegetarian. It is a stigma I have been plagued with my entire life. You see I was born vegetarian! My mother says when I first started eating solids as an infant, she mixed my mashed potatoes with chicken stock, and I spat it all up; I have been thwarting her efforts to turn me non-vegetarian ever since.”
Shweta further recounted, “There was an episode in my youth where, exasperated by my finicky eating habits while on holiday in the States, and concerned about my nutrition, she passed off a cheeseburger as vegetarian, and I devoured it, asking for more! It’s not that I haven’t considered non-vegetarian options, but let’s just say it remained a fleeting thought, never developing into a commitment. I am occasionally tempted by a slice of Viande Sêche (a dry cured Swiss meat introduced to me by a senior during my time in boarding school there. It changed my life).”
Benefits of vegetarian diet
Similar to Shweta, numerous celebrities, including Anushka Sharma, adhere to a vegetarian diet. The benefits associated with a plant-based diet have been thoroughly examined and validated by a multitude of studies. The positive impacts of embracing a vegetarian lifestyle extend well beyond individual health, contributing to enhanced overall well-being and a reduction in carbon emissions.
As highlighted in a September 2023 article by HT Lifestyle, the following are the benefits of adopting a vegetarian diet:
⦿ A properly balanced vegetarian diet can lower the risk of obesity, which in turn helps prevent chronic illnesses.
⦿ Following a vegetarian diet can assist in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, thereby decreasing the likelihood of heart disease.
⦿ Individuals who consume vegetarian foods are less likely to develop metabolic disorders such as diabetes and certain types of cancer.
⦿ Key components of a balanced diet for vegetarians include nuts, legumes, tofu, whole grains, dairy products, dark leafy greens, and soy.
