Sedentary Lifestyle Accelerates Aging: Expert Shares How Sitting Ages You and Ways to Reverse It
2 days ago | 5 Views
Sitting mainly characterizes the appearance of a sedentary lifestyle. From entertainment, whether it’s watching films or scrolling endlessly through social media, to working at a desk, prolonged sitting has become inevitable. However, what we don’t recognize is that this places significant stress on our bodies, potentially speeding up the ageing process (and no anti-ageing products can save us).
Dr. Kunal Sood (MD) from the National Spine and Pain Centre in Maryland took to Instagram to disclose how sitting is causing you to age quicker than you think.
Risks of being sedentary

While everyone is always searching for ways to slow the ageing process, whether through nutrition or skincare products, were you aware that sitting, which is a basic component of almost every activity, from eating to working, might actually be speeding it up?
Since preventing is preferable to treating, it's essential to understand how sitting contributes to your age.
Dr. Sood stated, "The more time you spend sitting, the faster you age. Did you know that the amount of time you are seated could be accelerating the ageing process? Extended periods of sitting, particularly with incorrect posture, will put strain on your back, neck, arms, and legs. This will exert significant pressure on your spinal muscles and discs, and maintaining a slouched position will even stretch the ligaments and discs over time. Eventually, this overstretching can result in discomfort in both your back and neck. Studies also indicate that excessive inactivity will heighten both stress and inflammation in your body, harming your telomeres, which are indicators of how your body ages over time. This will result in quicker ageing and also elevate your risk of diseases related to age. "
What can you do to stop it?

Your foremost anti-aging strategy is to stay active. Your hidden advantage is with you, remaining engaged in physical activity. It's an organic and potent approach to assist you in 'aging like a fine wine. '
Dr. Sood mentioned, “The positive news is you don’t have to completely change your lifestyle to see an impact. You can merely stand up more often, walk every half hour, take brief strolls, and even stretch to safeguard your telomeres and decelerate aging. ”
