Envisioning that stunning backless dress and fantasizing about how it would transform you into an immediate focal point? However, instead of proceeding to checkout, you opted to place it in your wishlist, feeling uncertain due to your back acne, commonly referred to as 'bacne.'

Back acne can be quite bothersome, causing hesitation when it comes to wearing backless attire. Fortunately, with appropriate skincare, it is possible to treat and prevent this condition.

Products to treat bacne

Dr. Neera Nathan, an MD, MSHS, and a dermatologist trained at Harvard, has recommended several products that could significantly improve back acne issues.

She suggested these:

  • Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser: Dr. Nathan advised the use of a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, suggesting that the lather be left on the affected area for 1 to 2 minutes before rinsing. For those new to this treatment, she recommended starting with a lower concentration, such as 4%, to reduce the likelihood of irritation.
  • Exfoliating Acids such as Salicylic or Glycolic: Exfoliating acids, including salicylic or glycolic acid, can be effective in addressing back acne. Dr. Nathan suggested incorporating these acids into your routine a few times a week. For ease of application, she recommended using toning pads. Given the difficulty of applying products to one’s back, utilizing a spray cap for glycolic acid can simplify the process, making it hands-free. She also emphasized the advantages of glycolic acid, noting its dual role in treating acne and softening acne scars and post-acne marks. Regular exfoliation may assist in unclogging pores, which can lead to the formation of pimples.
  • Hypochlorous Acid After Workouts: The dermatologist pointed out that workouts can inadvertently trigger back acne, as sweat may clog pores. Therefore, she recommended spraying hypochlorous acid on the back post-exercise.

Precaution

Skincare is an individual journey, as each person possesses distinct skin types, conditions, and concerns. Therefore, consulting a dermatologist is essential prior to introducing new products into your regimen. Numerous health and lifestyle factors may contribute to back acne, which can only be identified through a personalized consultation with a dermatologist.

The recommendations offered by Dr. Neera are general in nature, and it is imperative to seek a doctor's advice or, at the very least, conduct a patch test before implementing them.

Skincare does not adhere to a universal approach. The insights provided by Dr. Neera serve as a valuable foundation for comprehending skincare treatments, products, and underlying causes.

With appropriate skincare, back acne can be effectively managed, allowing you to regain your confidence and wear that backless dress without hesitation.
