Sania Mirza Reflects on Breastfeeding Journey: 'It Was Harder Than Pregnancy'

Sania Mirza, often considered India's most accomplished female tennis player, has discussed the emotional difficulties she encountered while nursing her son, Izhaan Mirza Malik. In the April 21 episode of The Masoom Minawala Show, Sania Mirza remarked that breastfeeding was more emotionally draining than pregnancy itself.

‘That was the hardest part of pregnancy'

She nursed for almost three months, but the journey was emotionally and mentally taxing due to the burden of being the exclusive source of sustenance for her infant. Sania mentioned that the continuous feeding routine and insufficient sleep contributed to her fatigue.

She stated, “I nursed for 2. 5-3 months. For me, that was the toughest aspect of pregnancy, I must admit. I think, I will have three more pregnancies, but this nursing thing, I don’t know if I can manage (again). For me, it was not the physical aspect; for me, the emotional and mental aspects were exhausting. As a working woman, it really confines you because you feel they (the infants) are so reliant on it. There is a time obligation, there is a lack of rest, and you are arranging all your tasks around when you need to feed the infant. ”

Sania Mirza thought she 'will lose her mind’

She remarked, “I did what was necessary. However, after three months, I visited the paediatrician and expressed, ‘Look, I've attempted but I simply can't do it. ’ He advised me to try for another month, and I replied, ‘I will lose my mind. ’ It was extremely challenging for me emotionally since you are already handling numerous issues and hormones after giving birth. . . and being in the public eye, individuals are criticizing your body. . . knowing that this little being relied solely on me for nourishment was a very tough situation because I felt, what if I am not present. ”

During her appearance on The Masoom Minawala Show, Sania also discussed her motivations for retiring from professional tennis, which were primarily influenced by her wish to spend meaningful time with her son. She aimed to be there for Izhaan’s early developmental years and give him the stability and care he required.
