Vampire facials have become increasingly popular among celebrities. Among those who have experienced this treatment are reality television star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian, as well as model Bar Refaeli. Additionally, actress Richa Chadha attributes her firmer and more youthful complexion to the benefits of vampire facials.

Richa Chadha on her facial treatment

The vampire facial treatment derives its name from the use of blood in the procedure. In October 2023, Richa was a guest on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Cyrus Says, on his YouTube channel, where she discussed the skincare treatment she highly recommends.

Richa Chadha explained, “I undergo a procedure known as a vampire facial, which I find quite enjoyable. They extract a small amount of your blood... Interestingly, this method was pioneered by Cleopatra, who used leeches on her face to rejuvenate her skin... You know, Cleopatra, the iconic beauty.”

She elaborated on the process, stating, “They take a small sample of blood, then utilize a tiny, prickly metallic roller that creates minor abrasions on your skin. After that, they separate the blood from the plasma and apply the plasma to your skin. Essentially, you trick your body into believing it has sustained an injury; when it receives the plasma, it senses the blood and rushes to produce more collagen. Consequently, on the first day, your skin may feel quite rough, but by the following day, it becomes incredibly smooth and soft. It’s truly wonderful.”

What is a vampire facial?

The procedure entails drawing blood from the individual, isolating the platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and subsequently reinjecting it into the facial area through microneedling. In a January 2024 interview with HT City, Aleena, a physician at Cara Clinic in Mumbai, shared insights and lesser-known aspects of this intriguing technique.

Microneedling, at its core, employs tiny needles to create micro-punctures in the skin, which induce controlled micro-injuries. These minor injuries trigger the body’s healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin—key proteins that contribute to the skin's volume and elasticity.

Aleena explained, “Think of PRP as your body’s natural growth serum. By harnessing its regenerative properties, we enhance skin texture, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and even support hair follicle health. It’s akin to nourishing your skin from within.”

It is crucial to seek advice from a qualified expert to assess whether this treatment is suitable for you.
