Actor Rakul Preet Singh, celebrated for her engaging presence and physique, shares an interesting insight: She identifies as a foodie who enjoys her cheat days. Nevertheless, she emphasizes the importance of maintaining balance.
Achieving equilibrium amidst temptation
For Rakul, balance is essential. She adheres to the "80-20 rule," which entails consuming 80% clean foods and allowing 20% for indulgence. This approach enables her to reserve her favorite treats for cheat meals, during which she fully enjoys every bite.
“I have many guilty pleasures. I love food, but for me, balance is crucial. I designate specific cheat meals each week, limiting myself to just one, where I indulge as much as I desire. I then make an effort to compensate in my other meals,” Rakul explained while attending the Magnum Lounge at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.
Understanding the 80-20 rule
The 80/20 diet rule promotes a balanced eating strategy rather than a restrictive one. It operates on the principle that 80% of the time, one should consume nutritious, whole foods—such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats. The remaining 20% allows for the enjoyment of less nutritious options—like desserts, chips, pizza, or other favorite treats.
This method is sustainable and helps to eliminate the all-or-nothing mentality, reducing guilt associated with "cheat meals" since indulgences are incorporated into the plan. It also fosters long-term healthy habits rather than encouraging crash diets.
There are no rigid guidelines for how to quantify the 80 and 20; it could mean that 80% of your meals are healthy while 20% are more relaxed, or that 80% of your daily or weekly caloric intake comes from clean eating, with 20% from indulgences.
She states, "I believe that achieving balance in meals is essential, and I follow a simple formula: 80 percent healthy and 20 percent indulgent." This perspective comes from the actress known for her roles in films such as Loukyam, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, Thank God, Doctor G, Runway 34, Sardar Ka Grandson, and De De Pyaar De.
Regarding her preferred method of enjoying a cheat day, Rakul enthusiastically shares that she enjoys hosting a buffet at home, showcasing a delectable array of her favorite dishes from various restaurants. This includes a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and rich desserts, all conveniently available in one place.
She enjoys this lavish experience alongside her husband, actor-producer Jackky V Bhagnani, and close friends, transforming it into a delightful, food-filled celebration.
"My ideal cheat day involves organizing a buffet featuring dishes from different restaurants. I can indulge in everything I desire—a bit of Japanese, a bit of Chinese, and all the desserts I crave. Everything I love is laid out at my home, and I enjoy it with my husband and a few friends, and we simply feast," she explains.
