Pizza in Moderation: The 50kg Weight Loss Transformation You Need to Hear About
2 months ago | 5 Views
Diet plays a crucial role in the journey of weight loss. However, many weight loss plans incorporate diets that are often overly restrictive, focusing on the elimination of entire food groups, such as carbohydrates or fats. Weight loss coach Nick Geoppo recently addressed this issue in an Instagram video, emphasizing that such an approach can be more detrimental than beneficial.
According to Geoppo, the extreme measure of completely cutting out certain foods is not sustainable. While individuals may experience initial weight loss and visible changes, it is equally likely that they will regain the lost weight, undermining their efforts.
Don't take alcoholics approach to food
He cautioned against adopting an "alcoholic's approach" to food, where the emphasis is placed on abstaining from certain items. This mindset can lead to intensified cravings, similar to the withdrawal symptoms experienced when alcohol is removed from one's diet.
Geoppo shared his personal journey, revealing that he lost 110 pounds (49.89 kg) in 2019 and has successfully maintained that weight since then. However, he noted that from 2013 to 2019, he repeatedly lost weight only to regain over 50 pounds (22 kg) each time.
Moderation for diet
He pointed out that most diets tend to be restrictive, citing examples such as Keto, low-carb diets, intermittent fasting, and calorie counting through tracking apps. Reflecting on his past experiences, he acknowledged that adhering to these restrictive diets led him to regain weight rather than achieve lasting results.
Geoppo advised against strictly following restrictive diets, stating, "The manner in which you lose weight determines the sustainability of your results. I do not wish to live in a state of restriction indefinitely."
While many believe that junk food must be completely avoided during weight loss efforts, Geoppo suggested that such foods can be consumed in moderation. He argued that restrictive diets often lead to an unhealthy obsession with food, transforming dieting into a daunting challenge of resisting temptations. When individuals inevitably fail, it can result in overeating. Embracing moderation is a more effective strategy for fostering a healthy relationship with food.
Nick provided recommendations for portion sizes of common junk foods:
- 1 or 2 slices of pizza rather than 3 or 4
- 1 scoop of ice cream instead of an entire pint
- A small order of fries instead of a large one
While losing weight can be straightforward, the real difficulty arises in maintaining that weight loss, particularly with restrictive diets, as it is impractical to eliminate certain foods indefinitely.
According to Nick, the foundation for enduring results is rooted in implementing genuine and sustainable lifestyle modifications. Rather than obsessively focusing on food choices, it is crucial to cultivate a mindset that encourages healthy weight loss. By adopting a non-obsessive perspective, individuals can foster a balanced and positive relationship with food, which facilitates freedom and sustainable progress. This approach also aids in weight maintenance.
While shedding pounds may be relatively simple, the true challenge lies in sustaining that weight loss.
