PV Sindhu pays close attention to how she spreads her protein intake throughout the day. In a recent chat with The Indian Express, the badminton star mentioned that when she’s not hitting her protein goals, she turns to whey protein, which is packed with essential amino acids and is easily absorbed by the body. She also shared that her daily meals feature eggs for breakfast, making for a quick and flexible protein option.

She mentioned that she works out in the morning, so she usually has two to three eggs for breakfast. Anyone else can have at least one. For lunch, she goes for a salad, a good serving of dal, paneer or vegetable curry, mostly green leafy veggies, a tiny bit of rice, and some curd. Dinner is pretty similar to lunch, but she swaps the protein for chicken. There are times when she struggles to get enough protein from food, especially when she's traveling or in the middle of a workout. During those moments, she turns to her protein powder or drink. Sometimes, she even adds protein powder to her yogurt for a quick snack.

On why protein and plant protein

PV Sindhu recommended focusing on protein-packed foods such as dal, paneer, and leafy greens instead of carbs, and suggested adding items like millets, idlis, and dosas to your meals.

She mentioned, “I consume animal protein, but for those who don’t, it’s easy to include a variety of plant proteins while limiting carbs to about a quarter of your plate. If you still need more protein, whey powder is a good option. My mom combines different dals with plenty of veggies. You can also mix proteins into the batters for idlis and dosas. Millets, like ragi, are great sources of plant protein too.”

She emphasized that protein helps build lean muscle, which can aid in weight loss. By following her advice and adding more protein-rich foods to your diet, you can enhance your overall health and fitness journey.
