With so many ‘experts’ online claiming that sugar is bad and poisonous for us, Kareena Kapoor's nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar said during her conversation with Pooja Dhingra, pastry chef and founder of Le 15, that ‘sugar is good’. The nutritionist stressed that sugar is not harmful if taken moderately.

Is sugar a monster?

In a video released by Tweak India on April 9, Rujuta shared that her office celebrates every special occasion with cupcakes. She stated, “Is sugar a monster? It only becomes a monster when consumed out of desperation. However, if it is enjoyed as part of a celebration, it can be a delightful treat.”

Rujuta further expressed her preference for traditional desserts over healthier alternatives. “I don’t indulge in almond flour cakes or millet cakes. When I choose to have dessert, I prefer the authentic versions: full-fat, full-sugar, and made with refined flour.”

‘Dessert, in the right frequency, is already healthy’

When inquired about her perspective on healthy desserts, the nutritionist expressed that she would refrain from consuming them, asserting that "regular food is healthy." She emphasized that enjoying a dessert in moderation can be considered healthy. "There is a reason why someone created this recipe with ample butter, sugar, and flour, and baked it at this specific temperature — it’s because that combination can create a lasting legacy," she elaborated.

Is there a framework for being healthy?

When In response to Pooja Dhingra's inquiry about any frameworks or guidelines for mindful eating while engaging in intense training, Rujuta emphasized that there are no definitive formulas for achieving health and happiness. She stated, "When you start categorizing food solely into carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and calories, you begin to lose the pleasure associated with eating. This leads to overthinking every bite you take, resulting in a tendency to make your meals less enjoyable."

She further elaborated, "For instance, when consuming milk, opting for whole-fat milk instead of low-fat, or choosing to eat the entire egg rather than just the egg white can make a significant difference. This approach helps prevent cravings for sweets later in the evening and alleviates feelings of hunger and dissatisfaction. Consequently, you can enjoy your meals as a conscious choice rather than out of desperation."
