Shark Tank India season 4, available for streaming on Sony LIV, recently featured a sibling pair from Delhi who presented their business focused on producing supplements for skin, hair, and body. During their pitch, they highlighted several of their skincare and haircare offerings and announced their expansion into the slimming solutions market. They requested an investment of ₹1 crore from the judges in return for 1.5 per cent equity in their company, which is valued at over ₹66 crore.
‘There is a huge craze for GLP-1’
Shreyansh Chauhan and Anousha Chauhan, the co-founders of Beautywise, received critical feedback from Namita Thapar, Whole-Time Director of Emcure Pharma and a judge on Shark Tank India. She expressed her concerns regarding their slimming pills, which claim to promote 'sustainable weight loss by converting fat into energy.'
Thapar stated, “I have reservations about your weight loss claims. There is a significant demand for GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1), a hormone essential for regulating blood sugar levels, curbing appetite, and aiding in weight management, which is being sourced from the black market. Originally intended for diabetics, it is now being administered casually at social gatherings such as kitty parties, weddings, and spas. This practice poses risks for individuals who do not require it. The obsession with weight loss in our country has reached alarming levels, and I believe that when you assert weight loss benefits on your product packaging, it is misleading. A focus on weight management would be a more honest and credible approach.”
While numerous celebrities have shared their weight loss experiences and referenced the use of medications akin to GLP-1, it is crucial to emphasize that such medications should only be utilized under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Weight loss medications, including those based on GLP-1, should be combined with a balanced diet and regular physical activity to achieve sustainable weight loss.
More details
In the latest season 4 of Shark Tank India, Shreyansh elaborated on the efficacy of his company's slimming product, which has demonstrated positive results in various trials, specifically targeting not only weight loss but also the reduction of belly fat.
During a discussion regarding a skincare product, Namita interjected, stating, “Shreyansh, let me pause you there. I have been listening quietly for quite some time. With 15 years of experience managing a dermatology division at Emcure, I am well-acquainted with clinic operations. For a product priced at ₹3000, ₹1800 is allocated to the clinic, which serves as a significant incentive. If you wish to lower that substantial margin, you will likely see a decline in your sales.”
