Manage Your Moods with Healthy Foods: Combat Anxiety, Stress, and Anger Without Unhealthy Snacks
19 days ago | 5 Views
At times, do you find that your emotions seem to dominate your actions? Each feeling can manifest in its own dramatic way, such as anxiety causing you to bite your nails or anger leading you to lash out. The reality is that you may feel mentally overwhelmed and on the verge of losing control. During these sensitive times, when emotions run high, you might be inclined to seek comfort in junk or processed foods as a means of distraction, perhaps consuming an entire bag of chips or a tub of ice cream in one sitting.
However, rather than helping to manage your emotions, these types of foods can exacerbate the situation. High-sodium and trans fat-laden options may leave you feeling more lethargic or irritable, intensifying your emotional state. This serves as a crucial reminder to opt for foods that can genuinely help mitigate emotional intensity during such times. Nutritionist Somya Luhadia shared insights on Instagram on April 16 regarding food choices based on your emotional state.
What to eat based on how you are feeling?
Somya shared:
- Feeling stressed or anxious: Pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate.
- Feeling low in energy: Add beetroot and vitamin B12 sources like yoghurt.
- Feeling angry or irritable: Add chamomile tea to your routine.
- Feeling low or sad: Add a banana or omega-3 sources like walnuts or flax seeds to increase your serotonin levels and boost your mood.
- Feeling unfocused and foggy: Add antioxidants with your green tea and boost your brain health with walnuts.
Emotionally overeating is not a good idea

It is common to turn to indulgent foods for comfort and to cope with overwhelming emotions as a means of distraction. However, this approach may not be the most beneficial, particularly if you have fitness objectives or are aiming to lose weight. Moreover, even outside the context of weight management, regularly consuming junk food in response to emotions can contribute to significant, long-term health problems. From an emotional standpoint, this behavior is also detrimental, as it fosters a cycle of guilt and shame, ultimately leading to increased emotional turmoil.
