US-based content creator Vanessa Wong, 23, has been sharing her journey of losing 40 pounds (18 kg) naturally on Instagram. In a post from April 1, she emphasized that, in her experience, removing superfluous foods from one's diet and concentrating on whole, nutritious options can significantly influence weight loss, as well as enhance overall health and well-being.
Vanessa stated, “The key here is eliminating the unnecessary. I’ll explain how this is literally the easiest yet most life-changing thing you could possibly do for yourself: Just eat real food.” She believes that adopting a balanced and healthy diet can positively affect overall health, energy levels, and well-being.

Enjoy your favourite sweets or snacks in moderation
Vanessa shared a compilation of 'healthy, nutritious, and easy-to-prepare foods' that she incorporates into her diet to sustain her weight loss. This includes options like Greek yogurt with fruits, egg whites paired with ham, and grazing boards featuring cheese, fruits, and nuts. She clarified, “This is not a ‘what I eat in a day’ meal plan or a diet suggestion.”
She further emphasized, “Excess of anything can be detrimental, so it’s important to maintain balance and enjoy your favorite treats or snacks in moderation... don’t overanalyze it. Conduct your research and take action. Whether your aim is weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain, start by examining your nutritional habits and commit to consuming whole foods while eliminating unhealthy options. You will notice changes in your body just by doing that.”
The Importance of Healthy Eating Beyond the Gym
Vanessa then explained how adopting a real-food diet by substituting processed items with whole alternatives can lead to a sustainable lifestyle change and assist in achieving fitness objectives. She stated:
1. Nutrition is fundamental to your overall well-being, regardless of any hormonal imbalances or health concerns. I share content related to PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) because I have dedicated time to understanding it, but the core principles apply to other areas of hormonal health as well. Your health is determined more by your nutritional intake and digestive health than by your gym routine. True health begins internally. You cannot compensate for poor nutrition with exercise alone.
2. Simply eating less will not result in weight loss; rather, the key lies in consuming more of the right foods while reducing the intake of unhealthy ones. A caloric deficit does not mean eating less overall; it means increasing your consumption of nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods to fuel your body and thrive. If you are someone who is indifferent about your food choices, then a health and fitness journey focused on nutrition may not be right for you. It is often said that abs are made in the kitchen, so it’s time to start caring about what you eat.
3. Remember that we are not meant to eat processed foods. Snacks out of bags, coloured chemicals, a billion grams of sugar, excessive oils, endless preservatives… if you can’t replicate a snack or meal at home because it’s a highly processed food, it’s essentially fake food. I’ll let you think about that because eventually, it’ll become common sense. Cut it and find sustainable swaps.
