Kareena Kapoor’s Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar Calls Weighing Scale ‘Stupid’

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, widely recognized for her collaboration with Kareena Kapoor, recently engaged in a conversation with Pooja Dhingra about various topics, including food, our connection to the weighing scale, the acceptability of sugar consumption, and more.

In a video released by Tweak India on April 9, Rujuta addressed our relationship with the weighing scale, stating that relying on the scale to affirm your progress is akin to depending on a toxic partner to compliment your appearance.

‘I do not own a weighing scale’

Rujuta emphasized the importance of not allowing external sources, particularly the weighing scale, to dictate our sense of self-worth. She stated, “Since 1999, I have been involved in this field and do not possess a weighing scale. We do not weigh any of our clients. It is essential to evaluate ourselves based on a broader range of factors beyond just weight.”

She further explained that when young individuals engage in physical exercise, they develop increased muscle mass and bone density as a result of their training. The weighing scale is inadequate, as it fails to account for these changes and simply provides a single number. “If your goal is to achieve a lower weight, you might as well travel to the moon, where there is no gravity and you would be weightless,” she humorously remarked.

Our relationship with food

In the course of the discussion, Rujuta Diwekar emphasized that food represents one of our fundamental pleasures, asserting that relinquishing this joy equates to relinquishing life itself. She remarked, “Maintaining a passion for good food is essential; it fosters a desire for personal growth and financial success. Each individual achieves optimal health at varying sizes and shapes.”

She referenced a recent study published in The Lancet, which indicates that individuals should not assess themselves solely based on weight and BMI. It is crucial to consider a variety of other factors, such as exercise habits, waist-to-hip ratio, quality of sleep, and our relationship with food, she elaborated. Furthermore, she noted that we have notably lost our common sense when it comes to eating.
