Medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, which are prescribed for adults managing type 2 diabetes, have become increasingly popular among people looking to shed some pounds. In a recent episode of Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Suman Agarwal, a nutritionist certified by Oxford and a fitness expert, discussed these drugs, their mechanisms, and potential side effects.
How does Ozempic impact your health?
When asked about the impact of Ozempic and Mounjaro on our health, Suman pointed out that these medications come with several side effects. She noted, “Typically, after having a balanced meal, food moves from your stomach to your intestines in about three hours.”
However, with these drugs, that timeframe can stretch to four, five, or even six hours, meaning food lingers in the stomach longer. “This leads to reduced hunger. If you're not feeling hungry, you end up eating less,” she explained.
What impact does it have on your body?
The nutritionist pointed out that not eating enough or having unbalanced meals can result in muscle loss. She remarked, “If you shed pounds but also lose muscle, what’s the point? That’s what can happen with Ozempic.” When asked if muscle loss is a guaranteed side effect, Suman explained, “Essentially, what do these injections do? Both are semaglutide. The packaging even mentions a risk of thyroid cancer. It’s like you’re messing with your body a bit.”
In the video, she also mentioned that when people lose weight using Ozempic or Mounjaro, it becomes pretty obvious. How can you tell? According to Suman, it’s because their facial glow diminishes. “You can see the radiance fade from their face,” she noted.
