In a chat with HT Lifestyle, Siddhi Aiya, a psychologist and habit coach at Alyve Health, mentioned, “Thinking is just what our mind does. What we can control is how we respond to those thoughts.”

The psychologist recommended a simple trick using pen and paper to help calm our minds and improve our sleep. Instead of trying to push away those racing thoughts, jotting down everything that pops into your head right before bed can be really effective. Thoughts tend to get louder and more exaggerated if we ignore them, but writing them out changes the game from hearing them to seeing them. This change can lessen their intensity and give us a clearer perspective. When we put our thoughts on paper, they become more concrete and easier to handle. Instead of feeling like a chaotic flood, they turn into something we can evaluate from a distance.

  • Putting our thoughts down on paper helps us sort through them more effectively.
  • This process can uncover links or trends in our thinking that we might have overlooked.
  • It also enables us to confront irrational fears or gain insight into persistent thoughts that trouble us.
  • Writing helps clear our minds, making room for better understanding and focus.

Clear your mind:

The psychologist mentioned that spending just 10 minutes journaling before bedtime can really help clear your mind. “The great thing is you don’t have to spend a lot of time on it. Just a quick 10-minute session can shift your mental state, helping to turn anxiety and overthinking into a calmer, more organized mindset. Think of it like tidying up your mind, similar to how you would clean up your home. Once you clear out the mental clutter, it becomes a lot easier to unwind and drift off to sleep,” Siddhi Aiya shared.
