In a March 31 interview with Indianexpress.com, actress Gautami Kapoor discussed her diet, exercise routine, and overall lifestyle. She mentioned that her fitness regimen consists of strength training, Pilates, and cardiovascular activities such as Zumba and treadmill walking. Gautami also noted that she initially concentrated on running and aerobics but eventually recognized that she was overtraining. Notably, at the age of 50, she revealed that she began her exercise journey at 15, well before gyms became widely available.
'Gym or exercises are my holy grail'
After years of engaging in "excessive cardio and extreme diets without adequate guidance," the actor now prioritizes listening to her body. She states, "I maintain consistency in my workouts, but I avoid pushing myself beyond my limits. As I age and experience perimenopause, I adjust my exercise routine according to my body's needs. I no longer feel the need to prove anything to anyone; going to the gym serves as a stress reliever for me. Upon leaving, I feel a profound sense of calm. The gym and exercise are my sanctuary. Since I have a naturally lean physique, excessive cardio can make me too thin. My trainer modifies my HIIT workouts each week based on my current feelings."
Gautami’s diet is disciplined but not restrictive
Gautami consumes a wide variety of foods but adheres to specific meal times and rarely snacks, with the exception of nuts, seeds, or homemade protein bars. Due to health concerns, she has also eliminated dairy from her diet.
In discussing her eating habits, the actress remarked, “Many people think I steer clear of fried foods, ghee, or butter, but I actually eat everything. My meal schedule is consistent — I have lunch at 11:30 am, and my final meal is by 6:30 pm. Fortunately, I don’t crave sweets... Dairy products like milk and yogurt made me feel uncomfortable, so I completely removed them from my diet. I haven’t even transitioned to almond milk; I simply drink black coffee twice daily. For the past 20 years, I have only consumed warm water — no cold or room-temperature water, just warm water throughout the day.”
More details of Gautami's diet
She added that she comes 'from a family of simple Maharashtrians', and grew up with basic food and eating habits; Gautami said that she doesn’t 'change her eating times unless she is working, shooting, or it’s beyond her control'. She also shared that with menopause, she’s facing digestive changes, and therefore, foods she 'ate comfortably two years ago now cause bloating or IBS symptoms (Irritable bowel syndrome), so she has adjusted her diet accordingly'.
