Weight loss can often be perceived as a lengthy and challenging endeavor, with the attainment of a specific weight goal appearing to be the ultimate aim. Nevertheless, it is important to recognize that the journey does not conclude upon reaching this goal; maintaining that weight also necessitates ongoing commitment. Adopting certain habits can facilitate this process, helping to prevent any potential weight regain after achieving the desired outcome.

Soraya, a coach specializing in weight loss and fitness, recently utilized Instagram to highlight several habits associated with being a 'thin and healthy girl' that enabled her to reduce her size from eight to two. She also provided a brief disclaimer, stating, “Thin doesn't automatically mean healthy, so these habits are things that help me lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way.” For further insights, please refer to the complete video.

Here are the habits she shared:

1. Walking is a major cheat code

Walking is the ultimate cheat code.

She underscored the significance of walking as a crucial practice for maintaining health and physical fitness. Referencing statistics, she noted, “The average American walks only three to four thousand steps a day. It is advisable to increase that number to approximately 7,000 or more.” Expounding on the advantages of walking, she remarked, “The more steps you take, the more calories you expend, which accelerates your metabolism. Once this habit is established, you will find yourself enjoying walking simply for the pleasure of it.”

Reflecting on her personal experience, Sorya explained that prolonged sitting makes her body feel restless and eager to move, indicating that the body naturally craves physical activity.

2. Stop eating when you're comfortably full

Being full is the signal to stop eating. Overeating is one of the reasons for weight gain. This applies to healthy foods as well. She said, “I don't care if it's a banana or snack bar; sometimes I'll start eating a snack and halfway through I get full, I will stop eating that snack.”

3. Stop having shame around food

Suppressing cravings can eventually lead to crashing and binge eating.

Individuals engaged in a weight loss journey often feel a sense of shame when they desire to consume something deemed 'unhealthy,' leading them to suppress their cravings. By letting go of guilt and fostering a positive relationship with portion control, they can better manage these urges. Prolonged restriction may ultimately result in a loss of self-control, leading to binge eating and a return to previous habits.

Sorya remarked, “For instance, if I want to eat and I crave a burger, I will order that burger. I do not categorize food as good or bad or something that will cause weight gain. I will consume a portion that satisfies me and take the remainder home.”

4. Consistent routine with boundaries in place

Maintaining consistency and adhering to a well-organized workout regimen are crucial for attaining and sustaining desired results.

Sorya shared her personal approach, stating, “For me, this involves three strength training sessions each week and daily walking. Occasionally, I also engage in tennis or running once a week.”

With the continuous emergence of new exercise trends, it is easy to become sidetracked. Nevertheless, remaining dedicated to a routine is imperative. Sorya emphasized, “I do not allow anyone to dissuade me from these activities because I recognize their benefits for my health and well-being.”

5. Manage stress

Yoga is one of the effective ways to combat stress.

Stress is a significant contributor to health deterioration, often leading even the most resolute individuals to deviate from their objectives and resort to detrimental habits for solace. Nevertheless, this is not a constructive strategy.

She explained, “Women who maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle have effective methods for coping with stress. They do not resort to alcohol, smoking, or excessive indulgence when faced with challenges. Instead, they engage in activities such as prayer, journaling, walking, practicing yoga, and discovering healthier outlets for their stress.”
