Farah Khan's Remarkable Pregnancy: Three Healthy Babies and the Power of Nutrition

On January 9, 2025, prominent figures from Bollywood conveyed heartfelt birthday wishes to filmmaker Farah Khan as she celebrated her 60th birthday. As she embarks on this new decade, it is worthwhile to reflect on a recent interview she gave on The Debina Bonnerjee Show, where she candidly discussed her pregnancy journey. In her narrative, she emphasized the critical role of proper nutrition and diet in ensuring the delivery of healthy infants.

Importance of good nutrition in pregnancy

Farah Khan was presented with three fertilized embryos, and her physician advised her to consider carrying only two, as twins are often recommended. She elaborated that it is commonly believed that one of the embryos might not develop as robustly as the others, potentially lacking sufficient nutrition. Nevertheless, Farah viewed the situation differently, perceiving it as a fortunate opportunity to have three children simultaneously.

During her pregnancy, Farah Khan implemented a comprehensive nutrition plan and sought guidance from a nutritionist. As her term progressed, she observed that while her weight gain was minimal, her abdomen was notably large, indicating that all the nutrients were being directed to her womb. She also remarked on the positive effects of her diet on her overall appearance, noting her radiant skin and vibrant hair. Thanks to her commitment to good nutrition throughout her pregnancy, she successfully delivered three healthy babies, each weighing 2.5 kilograms. This underscores the profound impact that proper nutrition can have in mitigating potential health risks.

Manifesting pregnancy and normalising IVF

Farah Khan embraced motherhood in her 40s, attributing the timing of her pregnancy to her marriage to Shrish Kunder, which occurred just one month prior to her 40th birthday. Consequently, it was expected that her pregnancy would occur later in life. In 2008, at the age of 43, she welcomed triplets through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Initially, Farah did not intend to become pregnant; however, she later began to focus on the idea of motherhood. She likened her experience to the well-known dialogue from her film Om Shanti Om, which suggests that if one truly desires something, the universe will conspire to help achieve it. This reflects her belief in the power of heartfelt manifestation. Farah shared how she began to envision her future children by giving them affectionate nicknames. She expressed her desire to speak publicly about her IVF experience in 2008 to help normalize the process, emphasizing that it is not something to be stigmatized.

While the IVF journey can be arduous, Farah emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook. During the challenging moments filled with numerous injections, she found solace in visualizing her future child's face, referring to IVF as a "miracle process." Today, her children, Diva, Anya, and Czar, are 16 years old.

Balancing work with right mindset

In addition to her IVF and pregnancy journey, Farah was actively working on the film Om Shanti Om. She recounted how she filmed the popular song Dard-E-Disco and key climax scenes during her pregnancy. She stressed that success in balancing work and motherhood is rooted in one's belief system. Only in the final ten days before her delivery did she take complete bed rest, and just two months postpartum, she returned to her professional commitments.

With the right mindset, determination, and passion, it is indeed possible to harmonize work and pregnancy.
