“Don’t Fall for Celebrity Skincare!” Dermatologist Warns Against Fruit Packs
13 days ago | 5 Views
Although fruit masks have gained popularity as a DIY skincare trend, certain recipes may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those with sensitive skin. In an episode of the Figuring Out With Raj Shamani podcast aired on April 1, dermatologist Manjot Marwah cautioned against skincare trends that could potentially be harmful. She noted that, despite the promotion of DIY facemasks by numerous Bollywood actresses, fruits with high acidity levels can irritate the skin, resulting in redness.
'I have a problem with too much skincare'
When asked about skin trends she disapproves of, Manjot expressed her concerns about DIY facemasks, stating, “I have no issues with face sheets; they are beneficial. I appreciate that people are becoming more conscious of skincare, which is a positive trend. However, I am concerned about individuals who refrain from going out due to their skin exposure; this indicates an excessive focus on skincare.”
‘You should not directly apply fruits to your face’
She further advised, “Currently, there are devices that create DIY sheet masks from fruit pulp. However, I strongly advise against this! It is detrimental and harmful. Maintaining your skin's pH balance is crucial, as your skin hosts a microbiome. Introducing additional acidity can disrupt this balance, leading to itchiness and dryness. Direct application of fruits on the face is not advisable. I have observed actresses endorsing this practice.”
"My question to their followers is: do you genuinely believe that these actresses use fruit masks on their faces? I have witnessed instances where fruits have caused significant irritation on patients' skin, especially when applied to sensitive areas or left on for extended periods. This results in redness, and people mistakenly perceive it as a positive outcome simply because an actress has claimed it to be beneficial! Nowadays, Bollywood actresses are revered like goddesses, and many assume that if they endorse a method, it must be effective!”
It is crucial to prioritize the safety and health of your skin. If you have any doubts regarding a skincare ingredient or formulation, seek guidance from a dermatologist or skincare expert for tailored recommendations.
