Numerous haircare tips and solutions exist for individuals with shiny, straight, and remarkably frizz-free hair. In contrast, those with curly hair often grow up unaware of their specific hair type or the appropriate care techniques. Recently, however, the 'curly girl method' has gained traction among younger generations, encouraging them to embrace their natural curls.

Haircare routine for your curls

If you are still in search of an effective routine for your curls, there is no need for concern. Celebrity hairstylist Amit Thakur, who has collaborated with renowned figures such as Nita Ambani, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif, has provided valuable insights for curly hair care, including common pitfalls to avoid.

Amit shared a video accompanied by the message, “Caring for curly hair revolves around protection and conditioning! I have highlighted some frequent mistakes to steer clear of if you wish to maintain defined and healthy curls. Safeguard your curls, ensure they are well-nourished, and always remember: never brush your curls when they are dry.” Below are four recommendations he provided:

What you shouldn't do if you have curly hair

1. Air drying while travelling

While air drying your hair may appear to be a convenient option when pressed for time, Amit cautioned against it, as it can lead to hair damage. “Many of you enjoy a quick rickshaw blow dry, but this can harm your follicles and increase the likelihood of breakage,” he noted.

2. Brushing out your curls

It is essential to refrain from brushing your curly hair! Amit emphasized that brushing can disrupt the natural curl pattern, resulting in increased frizz and potential mechanical damage. Mechanical damage refers to harm caused by improper handling of hair, such as being rough during styling, rushing through a ponytail, or having overly tight braids and detangling.

3. Wrong tools

Utilizing unsuitable tools to detangle wet hair can result in significant damage. "Curly hair is inherently delicate, and its fragility increases when wet. Therefore, employing your fingers, a wide-toothed comb, or a wet brush for detangling can be considerably gentler," advised the celebrity hairstylist.

4. Not applying the product when the hair is wet

Curly hair, in particular, requires ample conditioning. Applying products to wet hair ensures even distribution of the product.

Thus, when you find yourself in the shower or styling your curly tresses, remember to consider these recommendations.
