Common Triggers for Acne and Flaky Scalp in Women: What You Need to Know
4 days ago | 5 Views
In our super busy and fast-moving work lives, along with juggling personal stuff, it’s tough to find time for good nutrition, exercise, or even just taking care of ourselves. On top of that, things like pollution can really mess with our skin and hair health. In the rush to fix things quickly, a lot of people end up using a bunch of products without really knowing what’s causing the issues.
With all the chaos, it’s important to take a moment to pause and recognize the common problems with our hair and skin, because understanding them is the first step to finding the right solutions.
In a chat with a lifestyle magazine, Dr. DM Mahajan, a Senior Consultant in Dermatology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, talked about these typical hair and skin issues and broke down what usually triggers them:
Issues with skin

1. Pimples and skin flare-ups
Acne isn't just a teen issue anymore; more adults are dealing with it these days. Factors like hormonal changes, stress, and pollution are contributing to this rise. Plus, spending more time in front of screens and wearing makeup for extended periods can block pores and lead to more breakouts.
2. Skin discoloration and inconsistent skin tone
Dark spots, melasma, and uneven skin tone are pretty common problems caused by too much sun, hormonal changes (like during pregnancy), and leftover marks from acne. If you don’t use sun protection, these issues can get worse as time goes on.
3. Skin imbalance, whether it's dry or oily
A lot of women deal with either super dry or overly oily skin. Things like dehydration, strong skincare products, and changes in the weather can take away the skin's natural moisture, resulting in flakiness. Meanwhile, hormonal changes can ramp up oil production, leading to that annoying greasy feeling and clogged pores.
4. Early signs of aging
Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin are showing up sooner because of too much sun, pollution, and not-so-great lifestyle choices like smoking or eating poorly. Not drinking enough water and having a bad skincare routine can also speed up the aging process of your skin.
Hair issues

1. Losing hair and experiencing thinning strands
Stress, hormonal issues like PCOS or thyroid problems, a bad diet, and too much heat styling can really lead to hair thinning. New moms often deal with postpartum hair loss too, thanks to all the hormonal changes their bodies go through.
2. Flaky scalp and dandruff problems
If you're dealing with a flaky scalp, itching, and a lot of oiliness, you might be facing dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. These issues can pop up due to fungal infections, stress, or not taking care of your hair the right way. Using the wrong shampoo or washing your hair too often can actually make things worse.
3. Flyaways, split ends, and hair damage
Using heat styling tools a lot, along with hair dye and chemical treatments, can really damage your hair, causing frizz, split ends, and breakage. Plus, if your hair isn’t getting enough nutrients and there’s humidity in the air, it just makes things even harder to manage.
