Better Than Expensive Skincare? Nutritionist Swears by This Morning Ghee Drink!

Ghee is rich in antioxidants that can aid in safeguarding the skin from damage inflicted by free radicals, thereby enhancing a youthful and luminous appearance. Nutritionist Juhi Arora suggests that consuming a spoonful of ghee mixed with warm water each morning for a duration of two months can not only rejuvenate the skin but also promote digestive health.
In an interview, we consulted Dt Suhani Seth Agarwal, head of the dietetics department at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Noida, to verify this claim. First, let us review Juhi Arora's insights shared in an Instagram video dated February 20.
What are the advantages of consuming ghee with water?
She stated, “If you incorporate this into your routine for two months, I can assure you that you will no longer need your costly skincare products or collagen supplements. Upon waking, our body requires healthy fats on an empty stomach. The optimal method to achieve this is by providing your body with the precise amount of beneficial fat it needs, which is simply one teaspoon of ghee.”
Juhi further emphasized, “Consuming this ghee in a glass of warm water on an empty stomach each morning can enhance both your skin and gut health. This advice is particularly beneficial for brides seeking a pre-wedding glow, as well as individuals experiencing skin-related allergies.”
Is having ghee 1st thing in morning good for skin?
According to Dt Suhani Seth Agarwal, the practice of consuming warm water mixed with ghee (clarified butter) is observed in certain traditional medicine systems, such as Ayurveda. However, the scientific evidence supporting its efficacy for gut health and skin conditions remains limited.
She stated, “Ghee is known to contain butyric acid, which may promote gut health by nourishing intestinal cells and potentially alleviating inflammation. Additionally, it provides fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) that can enhance skin health when consumed in moderation. Some advocates believe that this combination may aid digestion, support elimination, and contribute to a healthy gut microbiome.”
Suhani further noted, “Nonetheless, there is a lack of clinical evidence to substantiate the claim that this specific mixture (1 tablespoon of ghee in warm water) enhances gut health or addresses skin issues. The benefits associated with this practice have not been rigorously validated by contemporary medical research. Individual responses may vary due to differences in metabolism, gut flora, and overall health conditions.” She emphasized that proper hydration, a nutrient-dense diet, sun protection, and suitable skincare practices are essential for maintaining skin health.
Is ghee on empty stomach good for gut health?
Regarding the question of whether ghee on an empty stomach is beneficial for gut health, Suhani highlighted that evidence-based strategies for gut health include adequate fiber intake, probiotics, hydration, and a balanced diet. She advised, “If you are facing ongoing gut or skin concerns, it is prudent to seek guidance from a healthcare professional rather than relying solely on traditional remedies without medical oversight. They can offer tailored recommendations based on your unique health requirements and circumstances.”
