Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, who has collaborated with actress Kareena Kapoor for several years, has identified two foods that can effectively address the afternoon slump. In an Instagram post dated March 12, she recommended incorporating ghee and chutneys into one's lunch to prevent feelings of irritability, drowsiness, or fatigue after the midday meal.
In her caption, she stated, “To counter the afternoon slump, consider adding these two foods to your lunch: the traditional ghee and chutneys. They provide a small amount of healthy fats, fiber, micronutrients, and, most importantly, a variety of flavors and enjoyment.”
In a video shared from an event, Rujuta elaborated on this topic, explaining in Hindi, “How many individuals experience an afternoon slump following lunch? This slump refers to the sensation of sleepiness that occurs post-lunch, making one feel as though without tea, coffee, or a cigarette, they might fall into a deep sleep. Many people become irritable after lunch... if you wish to avoid feeling irritable, sleepy, or fatigued after your meal, these two items should be included in your lunch.”
Why you should eat ghee with lunch
Regarding the benefits of ghee, she emphasized, “The first item is ghee, which is highly beneficial for your health. Many of you are likely deficient in Vitamin D and B12, and ghee is essential in your diet. For those who have noticed weight gain over time, are experiencing thyroid issues, have skin pigmentation, or suffer from constipation, incorporating ghee into your lunch is advisable. Aim to add at least a teaspoon of ghee to your meal.”
Don't forget to include a chutney in your lunch
Additionally, Rujuta highlighted the importance of chutney, stating, “The second essential component of your lunch should be some form of chutney—whether it is made from curry leaves, coconut, lentils, or flaxseed. Our diverse Indian cuisine offers a variety of chutneys, all of which are beneficial for your health.”
It is important to consume ghee and chutneys in moderation as components of a balanced diet.
