3 days ago | 5 Views
Even the most visually appealing apples, grapes, and strawberries can harbor more dirt than one might anticipate when examined under a microscope. However, there is an effective method to enhance the cleanliness of these fruits. Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain has provided a comprehensive guide on how to eliminate pesticides, germs, and bacteria from fruits.
3-step fruits cleaning guide
In an Instagram video posted on March 17, she demonstrated the use of baking soda as a means to cleanse contaminated fruits. The process is simple: immerse the fruits in a baking soda solution for 15 minutes, then rinse them thoroughly with clean water to eliminate any residual baking soda and contaminants, making them safe for consumption.
In the video, Deepsikha stated, “If you are not washing your fruits in this manner, you are consuming pesticides. Step 1: Place your fruits in a bowl. Step 2: Fill the bowl with water completely. Step 3: This is the crucial step—add baking soda while the fruits are soaking. Baking soda serves as an excellent cleansing agent, effectively removing pesticides, germs, and bacteria.”
She further explained, “The addition of baking soda can eliminate up to 98 percent of bacteria compared to simply rinsing fruits under running water. After soaking for 15 minutes, you will notice the water is visibly contaminated with germs and bacteria. Please share this information with fellow fruit enthusiasts.”

Eating dirty fruits can cause gut inflammation
In her post, she advised, “Ensure you wash fruits thoroughly before consumption. Many fruits are coated with pesticides and toxins on their surfaces, and failing to clean them properly may result in gut inflammation. Therefore, please adhere to these guidelines for safe fruit consumption.”
You may wonder, what exactly is gut inflammation? The Mayo Clinic defines inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as a collective term for various conditions that result in swelling and inflammation of the digestive tract tissues.
Not all fruits and vegetables that appear appealing on the dining table are beneficial for the stomach. They may harbor unchecked levels of pesticides, which can have harmful effects on human health.
