According to Dr. Nas, enhancing your morning energy begins with prioritizing sleep. He emphasized that many individuals fail to achieve the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night, which can significantly affect mood, energy, and focus the following day.
He further explained that sleep should be viewed as a form of 'free therapy' for the brain. The neuroscientist noted that it aids in restoring cognitive functions by eliminating harmful substances from the brain and replenishing essential neurotransmitters like dopamine, which are vital for motivation and concentration.
2. Increase physical activity the day prior
To ensure a restful night and wake up rejuvenated, it is essential to engage in more physical activity the day before. “This is not surprising, as exercise enhances the production of BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor), a protein critical for neuroplasticity, learning, and memory. Therefore, increased physical activity today leads to improved brain function tomorrow,” he noted.

Dr. Nas also recommended opting for a breakfast rich in complex carbohydrates while steering clear of high-sugar options, which can lead to feelings of sluggishness. “It is advisable to choose whole grains, oats, or fruits over refined sugars to kickstart your day effectively,” he stated.
