Diet culture has led us to think that we have to starve ourselves or cut out the foods we love to become the healthiest version of ourselves. But that's simply not the case. What really works is finding balance, maintaining a caloric deficit, and developing sustainable habits along with a solid workout routine to build strength.

In a video posted on March 21, Tasha, a weight loss coach on Instagram, shared her experience of ditching diets in favor of creating lasting habits during her weight loss journey. The outcome? She shed nearly 45 kg and successfully maintained her weight, even after her fourth pregnancy. Here’s how she achieved it:

I gave up on dieting when I hit 107 kg...

In her Instagram post, Tasha emphasized that you can shed pounds without going on a diet, which goes against the common belief. She also mentioned that if you've been having a tough time losing weight, it's not your fault — it's the approach you're using.

The weight loss coach started her journey at 235 pounds (107 kg). She shared that instead of following strict diets, she focused on creating lasting habits, which helped her shed pounds over time. She mentioned, “I dropped 5 pounds in the first month. By breaking the cycle of always saying 'I'll start again on Monday', I found myself naturally eating less.”

Forget dieting; focus on building lasting habits instead

She shed 10 pounds (4.5 kg) in just a month by committing to drink a gallon (3.78 liters) of water daily and incorporating more vegetables into her meals. By the time she had lost 30 pounds (14 kg), she had developed a sustainable routine that kept her motivated. The weight loss journey became effortless for her, with no strict rules or yo-yo dieting—just straightforward habits that truly worked.

“I hit my goal of losing 100 pounds (45 kg) by changing my habits instead of following a diet. I created sustainable habits that I could maintain for life, and because of that, I’ve never experienced yo-yo dieting again,” she shared.

Tasha also successfully maintained her weight after welcoming her fourth child. Although shedding postpartum weight can be challenging, she credited her success to the sustainable habits she had established. She continued these habits throughout her pregnancy, which allowed the weight to come off naturally. “I just stuck to my routines, and my body adjusted on its own,” she explained.

Finally, she offered some advice for anyone looking to lose weight: “Don’t spend the next ten years going back and forth between being 'on a diet' and 'off a diet.' Instead, focus on creating habits you can actually maintain, and you won’t need to diet again.”
