Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has addressed the online trolling faced by the young actors in her recent film, The Archies, regarding their performances. During her appearance on Komal Nahta's Game Changers podcast, Zoya expressed that it was her 'responsibility' to ensure their performances were well-executed, and she conveyed her regret over the challenges they encountered.

The film "The Archies" introduced three star children to the acting world: Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan; Suhana Khan, the daughter of Shah Rukh Khan; and Khushi Kapoor, the younger daughter of Sridevi. Following the film's release in 2023, all three faced some criticism on social media. When questioned about the audience's treatment of newcomers, Zoya Akhtar remarked, "I believe the audience can be critical of certain newcomers, but not all."

The director expressed her sense of accountability regarding the experiences of her cast. "I felt disheartened by the situation because they trusted my judgment. I auditioned them, selected them for their roles, and they agreed to participate. I worked closely with them during rehearsals, filming, and approved their performances. Therefore, I feel responsible. It was upsetting to see them being subjected to negativity. It was not pleasant. Ultimately, it falls on me," she stated.

Earlier this month, in an interview with the Indian Express, Khushi Kapoor expressed her thoughts on certain elements of the film's post-production. She stated, “Perhaps… from a marketing perspective, it should have been emphasized that the film targets a younger demographic. I do not wish to alter anything significantly, as I believe the film was indeed intended for a youthful audience. In fact, the viewers who appreciated it the most were predominantly those under the age of 16. Additionally, I think it is important to recognize that not every film needs to appeal to all audiences,” she remarked.

The Archies was directed by Zoya Akhtar and featured performances by Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Vedang Raina, and Yuvraj Menda. The film premiered on Netflix on November 22, 2023.
