Zakir passed away at a hospital in San Francisco early last week as a result of complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung condition. He was 73 years old. Renowned as one of the most skilled percussionists globally, he was interred at Fernwood Cemetery in San Francisco on Thursday.
