Actor Zahan Kapoor, recognized for his captivating performances in "Faraz" and "Black Warrant," hails from the renowned Kapoor family. As the grandson of the iconic Shashi Kapoor, he is also the second cousin of well-known actors Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Karisma Kapoor. Nevertheless, Zahan has stated that during his upbringing, he had minimal interaction with his illustrious relatives.
Zahan Kapoor on equation with Ranbir Kapoor
Actor Zahan Kapoor, who has garnered attention for his roles in "Faraz" and "Black Warrant," hails from the renowned Kapoor family. As the grandson of the iconic Shashi Kapoor, he is also the second cousin to well-known actors Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Karisma Kapoor. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Zahan shared that he grew up quite distanced from the Kapoor clan, as his grandfather, Shashi Kapoor, intentionally chose to maintain a degree of separation due to his appreciation for privacy. Zahan noted that family gatherings were limited to special occasions, and he was unaware of Ranbir's existence until the latter's debut in "Saawariya."
"I have a humorous anecdote to share, and I feel quite embarrassed about it. Before Ranbir Kapoor's launch, I had no real knowledge of him. I certainly knew Chintu's uncle, but we were quite disconnected. I was immersed in my own world as a child. It was around the time he made his mark with 'Saawariya' in 2007 that I was still in school," Zahan recounted.
Recently, Zahan has been able to strengthen his relationship with his cousins. Kareena even acknowledged him publicly before the release of his Netflix series "Black Warrant" last month. "It feels special to share my work with them now. I vividly remember watching 'Rockstar' twice in one day. Our relationship wasn't close enough for me to call him and discuss 'Rockstar,' but it has certainly improved," Zahan expressed.
Zahan Kapoor on growing up outside the industry bubble
In a recent conversation with HT, Zahan discussed how his upbringing beyond the confines of the 'industry bubble' contributed to his ability to lead a conventional life. He remarked, “I consider myself fortunate to have had a unique upbringing. My parents were both creators, yet they operated somewhat outside the industry. By the time I was born, my grandfather had already retired. Consequently, I did not grow up immersed in the industry bubble, so to speak. This allowed me the privilege of experiencing a truly ordinary, normal life. I became aware of these matters during my adolescence.”
About Black Warrant
In the series Black Warrant, Zahan portrays the character Sunil Gupta, who experiences his formative years as a deputy jailer at Tihar Jail during the 1980s. This adaptation is inspired by the 2019 nonfiction work Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer, authored by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury. The cast also includes Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, and Sidhant Gupta. The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
