YouTuber Calls Out Priyanka Chopra for ‘Out-of-Touch’ Applause—Reddit Disagrees
1 month ago | 5 Views
In 2020, amidst the initial wave of the pandemic, Priyanka Chopra posted a video of herself participating in the Janta curfew, expressing gratitude for the efforts of doctors, nurses, and all first responders confronting Covid-19. YouTuber Brett Cooper utilized this moment in her recent video, which critiques the insensitivity displayed by numerous celebrities during the pandemic and their inability to resonate with the concerns of the general populace. This particular clip surfaced on Reddit, where numerous users expressed their support for the actress.
YouTuber slams Priyanka's response
In the video, the YouTuber criticized Priyanka's behaviour, stating, “It continues for approximately 30 seconds! As a theatre kid myself, I can comment on this. What did you expect to achieve? Viewers of this video might think I seek your applause! I do not! This only exacerbates the situation, as you attempt to show empathy from the comfort of your expansive Malibu mansion, wherever that may be!”
The video also featured various celebrities and their responses during the pandemic, including Gal Gadot, Chrissy Teigen, David Geffen, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez.
She continued, “I apologize if ordinary individuals viewed these posts and chose to disregard the situation! These representations were entirely insincere, and what exacerbated the issue in 2020 was that just two months later, they engaged in the Black Lives Matter movement, promoting chaos in the streets and calling for the defunding of the police while remaining comfortably ensconced in their gated residences and communities.”
How Reddit reacted
In response to the video, numerous Reddit users expressed their support for Priyanka. One commenter noted, “To my recollection, Priyanka was one of the few Indian celebrities who actively shared information and resources during the COVID pandemic. Additionally, when the lockdown commenced in 2020, the act of clapping, banging utensils, and lighting candles was observed in various countries, not solely in India or merely at the behest of Modi. It served as a gesture of solidarity and gratitude towards healthcare and essential workers.”
Another user remarked, "I fail to understand the criticism regarding her 'clapping from her large mansion.' Yes, Priyanka does reside in an affluent area today, but this is a result of her relentless hard work without any privileges to support her. It is misleading to suggest that she cannot empathize with the struggles of ordinary individuals. Is it implied that wealthy individuals should refrain from acknowledging first responders simply because of their affluent living conditions? Should they remain completely silent on such matters?"
“Priyanka Chopra >>>> Brett Cooper. The Daily Wire has caused significant damage to our society, and the consequences will resonate globally. What has Priyanka done? Provided relief. Quite cringeworthy, isn’t it? The audacity!” another comment stated.
On the professional front, Priyanka is set to appear in the second season of Citadel. Reports indicate that she will also feature in SS Rajamouli's upcoming film, which stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role. This project is anticipated to be an action adventure akin to Indiana Jones, although an official announcement has yet to be made.
