Mandira Bedi was featured in a minor supporting role in the iconic Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. She portrayed the character of Parmeet Sethi's submissive sister, who harboured feelings for Shah Rukh Khan's character, Raj. During a recent appearance on Kareena Kapoor's show What Women Want, the actress reminisced about the challenges she faced while filming the song Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna from the movie.

Mandira's statement.

In the course of the conversation, Mandira remarked, “In contrast to your beauty and elegance when it comes to singing, I began with a song! Mehendi Laga ke Rakhna! As an adult, if I experience nightmares, they revolve around two specific subjects: choreographed dance and mathematics examinations. Both evoke a similar sense of dread that leaves me waking up in a cold sweat.”

It was genuinely quite frightening.

She further elaborated, stating, "Saroj [Khan] Ji was the choreographer, and I recall her saying to me, ‘You know something? You resemble Sunny Deol; he has a distinctive way of shaking his shoulders! You do that quite well, but as a woman and a female actor, you must learn to move your hips!’ This was something I struggled with. It was genuinely quite daunting, and it remains so. While it is enjoyable to attend a party and dance freely to unwind, dancing to a specific rhythm is, for me, quite intimidating!"

Mandira also mentioned that whenever she views the sequence on social media, she still feels a sense of embarrassment regarding her performance at that time.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a musical romance film from 1995, written and directed by Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the leading roles, the film is regarded as one of the most successful Bollywood productions in history, having run in a Mumbai theatre for over twenty years.

The narrative centres on two non-resident Indians (NRIs), Raj (Shah Rukh) and Simran (Kajol), who meet during a trip to Europe and fall in love. Raj pursues Simran back to Punjab, where her family intends to marry her off to a family friend she has never met, and he endeavours to win their approval.
