Renu Chopra, the wife of the late filmmaker Ravi Chopra and a producer, recently commended Shah Rukh Khan's kindness during an interview with Pinkvilla. She shared how SRK supported her son Abhay Chopra's directorial debut, Ittefaq, at a time when she lacked the funds to produce the film and even chose not to charge interest on the loan.

How SRK came on board for Ittefaq

Regarding Shah Rukh Khan's involvement in Ittefaq, Chopra reflected on the initial stages of the collaboration for the 2017 project. She recounted her request to meet him, which he declined, stating he would prefer to visit her out of respect. However, after three weeks without a visit, Chopra took the initiative to reach out.

In her recollection of the meeting, Chopra stated, “I told him, ‘I don’t have money,’ to which he responded, ‘I’ll provide the funds.’ I assured him that my son would pour his heart into the film.” This project marked the directorial debut of her youngest son, Abhay. She noted that SRK had not even read the script, adhering to his principle of supporting the individual rather than the project itself. He expressed, “If your son is committed to it, then I will support it.”

Shah Rukh refused to charge interest

She reminisced about SRK’s kind gesture, noting that the superstar declined to accept any interest. She remarked, “To this day, the financial arrangement was always split evenly. Upon the film's completion, as is customary, there would typically be an interest rate. However, he stated, ‘No, this is forbidden for me. I won’t accept it.’”

Regarding Ittefaq  

The neo-noir mystery thriller represented Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut. Co-written by Chopra, Nikhil Mehrotra, and Shreyas Jain, the film is an adaptation of the 1969 movie of the same name, originally directed by Yash Chopra. It featured Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna, and Sonakshi Sinha in leading roles and performed moderately at the box office, grossing ₹51.47 crore globally.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Upcoming Film  

Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in the action-thriller King. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is said to also feature his daughter, Suhana Khan, alongside Abhishek Bachchan in significant roles. At an event held at the Global Village in Dubai, SRK discussed the film, stating, “I’m not only filming here; I will also be shooting in Mumbai when I return in a couple of months. My director, Siddharth Anand, is quite strict. He directed Pathaan, so he has a firm approach. He instructed me, ‘Don’t disclose details about the film or your role in it.’ Therefore, I cannot share specifics, but I can guarantee that it will be entertaining and enjoyable for you.”
