As we approach 2025, which marks 200 years of modern railways, Yash Raj Films (YRF) and UK Railways are teaming up for an exciting cultural collaboration. This partnership celebrates the timeless love and romance that train journeys have inspired, while also honoring the 30th anniversary of the beloved film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). This classic romantic movie has won hearts all over the globe.

The collaboration between YRF and UK Railways emphasizes the connection between railways and romance in cinema, particularly through DDLJ. Many of the film's unforgettable romantic moments were shot in the UK, with train travel being a key element. DDLJ, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, remains a cherished classic that shaped a generation of romance in Indian films. One of the most memorable scenes was filmed at King's Cross Railway Station, where Raj and Simran first cross paths. This station has become a symbol of the film and continues to stir nostalgia among fans worldwide.

To celebrate this cultural milestone, YRF is bringing DDLJ to the stage with a musical adaptation called Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical. This production will take place at the Manchester Opera House from May 29 to June 21, 2025, and aims to capture the same enchanting spirit of the original film. Directed by the legendary Aditya Chopra, who also directed the original DDLJ, the musical will delve into the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, presenting a cross-cultural love story.

The musical takes its cues from Simran's character and tells the story of a young British-Indian woman who is set to marry a family friend in India through an arranged marriage. Things get complicated when she unexpectedly falls for a British guy named Roger. This production highlights the blend of cultures, capturing the same love and emotions that made the original film a classic. The music will be created by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, with Neil Benjamin writing the lyrics and the book. Choreography is in the hands of Rob Ashford and Shruti Merchant.

This partnership between YRF and UK Railways isn’t just about celebrating 30 years of DDLJ; it’s also about highlighting train travel as a symbol of connection and romance. Suzanne Donnelly, Executive Director of 'Railway 200', shared her enthusiasm, stating, “We’re excited to team up with Yash Raj Films to honor the lasting romance and the unifying power of railways globally. Trains have inspired many filmmakers and have played a significant role in shaping our cultural narrative.”

This cultural collaboration merges the best of film, music, and history while honoring the deep cultural connections between the UK and India. It’s a remarkable moment for both the film and railway industries, giving fans a fresh way to enjoy the timeless love story of DDLJ.
