2 months ago | 5 Views
With the 67th Annual Grammy Awards just around the corner, worries are rising about the severe wildfires raging through Los Angeles. The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 2, at Crypto.com Arena in downtown L.A., and folks are starting to question if this ongoing disaster might cause any delays or changes for music's biggest night.
The 2025 Grammy Awards are getting pushed back
Sources have informed The Hollywood Reporter that there are ongoing talks about possibly delaying the music award show or turning it into a fundraiser. A senior TV executive mentioned that it’s looking likely the Grammys will be postponed due to the devastating wildfires impacting the Los Angeles area.
These active fires have already caused loss of life and property. However, another insider indicated that the decision will depend on how things unfold in the coming days. Harvey Mason Jr., head of the Recording Academy, is reportedly exploring different options.
On top of the uncertainty with the Grammy Awards, plans are in motion for a benefit concert to support those affected by the wildfires. Set for January 30 at the Intuit Dome, this event will be organized by MusiCares, which helps music professionals in need. Hosted by Live Nation, the Azoff family, and AEG Presents, the concert will feature a lineup of artists and broadcast partners that are yet to be announced.
Yet, organizing such a big event during a natural disaster presents more than just logistical challenges. Many in the music industry are dealing with personal losses, including musicians who have lost their instruments and staff from major labels and publicists for artists like Billie Eilish and The Weeknd who have also been impacted, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The Grammy Awards have dealt with some delays in the past
The Grammys have had their fair share of delays and cancellations before. Recently, the Recording Academy postponed the show a couple of times. Back in 2021, they pushed it from January to March due to COVID-19. Then in 2022, it got moved again from January to April because of the rise of the Omicron variant. That year also marked the first time the event took place in Las Vegas.
