The infamous Oscars 2022 slap involving Will Smith and Chris Rock remains a topic of discussion even three years later. According to a report by InTouch Weekly, tensions between the two persist, with sources close to Smith revealing that he "still harbours resentment" toward Rock, particularly for his "smug attitude" in the aftermath of the incident.
Will Smith ‘still hates’ Chris
A source told the portal, "Chris Rock is dealing with a lot of drama and issues in his life, alienating people around him, while his nemesis Will Smith relishes every moment of his struggles, taking satisfaction in his misery. Will is enjoying getting the last laugh." The source further added, "Will Smith will never forgive Chris for the bad press and for ruining his life, even though he has managed to rebuild over the past year. However, he still harbours resentment towards Chris and his smug demeanour."
What happened between Will Smith and Chris Rock
The feud originated at the 94th Academy Awards when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, referencing the film G.I. Jane. Will Smith, seemingly defending his wife, stormed onto the stage and slapped Rock. The incident sparked widespread debates about comedy, boundaries, and personal conduct, with many siding with Rock, viewing Smith's reaction as an overreach.
Although Smith won the Academy Award that year for his role in King Richard, the fallout was significant. He was banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years and resigned from the Academy. While he apologized to the Academy during his acceptance speech, he did not extend an apology to Rock. Meanwhile, Chris Rock has shown no signs of moving on, frequently referencing the incident during his live performances.
Reflecting on the altercation during an interview with CBS Mornings, Jada Pinkett Smith said, "That's a really deep subject. I think you've gotta be really careful about the 'why'." She continued, "That's Will's story to tell, not mine. What I will say is that being there with him that night, I might not have walked in as his wife, but I left as his wife. And as I sit here today, I will always stand by his side."
Will Smith's most recent project was the 2024 action-comedy Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Directed by Adil & Bilall, the film serves as the fourth instalment in the Bad Boys series and a sequel to Bad Boys for Life (2020). The movie featured Martin Lawrence, Joe Pantoliano, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Jacob Scipio, John Salley, and DJ Khaled in key roles.
