Will Netflix Hit Adolescence Return for Chapter 2? Creators Reveal Plans
3 days ago | 5 Views
The Netflix series Adolescence has garnered international acclaim, soaring to the forefront of streaming rankings in 80 countries, such as India and Australia. Consequently, there is considerable speculation regarding the potential for a second season. Although no official announcement has been made, the show's creators have provided subtle indications that they might explore the intricate universe of the series again in the future.
Adolescence creators drop a major hint
Although the series has received significant praise, its creators, Stephen Graham and his wife Hannah Walters, did not foresee the overwhelming reaction to their four-part series. They discussed the show's influence in a recent interview with Variety.
Originally intended as a standalone project, it is reported that Netflix has shown interest in a potential sequel. While Stephen and Hannah acknowledge this interest, they stress that no formal plans have been established. Should a second installment be approved, it will tell a different story rather than revisiting the same narrative.
“Possibly, let’s see how the figures are. But yeah, there’s the possibility of developing another story,” Stephen remarked.
Hannah added that she would welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Netflix again, though she noted the challenge of following up on a project that has made such a significant global impact.
She stated, “A prequel to Adolescence is certainly not in the works. However, there is ample potential in the one-shot format and in exploring human nature further by examining new themes. But yes, everything seems promising … everyone’s content, shall we say?”
About Adolescence
Adolescence is a limited four-part series featuring Stephen Graham alongside newcomer Owen Cooper. Upon its release last week, it garnered exceptional reviews and quickly gained traction on social media. Directed by Philip Barantini, the series premiered on Netflix on March 13 and swiftly ascended to the No. 1 position globally.
Co-created and penned by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, Adolescence narrates the tale of a family fractured by the arrest of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) for the murder of a classmate. The series delves into themes of casual misogyny and the impact of social media on today’s youth. Notably, each scene is filmed in a single take, a technique that has received widespread acclaim.
In the UK, Adolescence set a record as the first streaming series to achieve the top spot in weekly ratings. Internationally, it debuted with an impressive 24.3 million views within its first four days, eventually reaching 66.3 million views after two weeks. In India, the series ignited discussions regarding the potential for similar projects, prompting inquiries into the state of creative freedom in the country.
